I love this city!
I am so excited to be seeking re-election to Duncan City Council so I can continue to be a voice for renters, for young people and seniors, for our small business community, for our unhoused citizens, for the environment, and for everyone who lives, works, and visits here. I was born and raised here, and have been living and working in the downtown core for over a decade now as I raise my own family here.
Over the past eight years, I’ve been a strong supporter of meaningful affordable housing; high environmental standards & sustainability projects; community safety initiatives; and quality, accessible parks & public spaces. At the council table, I always strive to be respectful, thoughtful, open-minded, and well-prepared. A councillor is just one voice of six, and what I bring to the table is the voice of a parent, a renter, a student, a downtown resident, a small local business employee, a longtime volunteer for local music festivals, public safety groups, and clean-up events, and now a seasoned municipal leader with eight years of valuable experience.
I'm also running for a third term because there is still so much to do, and we need positive, enthusiastic energy at the council table. With a few current councillors departing, we're going to have some new faces at city hall this October, and electing incumbents alongside them can provide continuity, experience, and help keep us on track with long-term projects which can span many years.
So what can you expect from me on council? I will continue to be the same respectful, measured voice that I have been for the past 8 years. I will continue to be open-minded and listen to differing viewpoints from my council colleagues and the community. I will continue to support meaningful affordable housing, smart density, environmental initiatives to protect our green space and increase our tree canopy. I will continue to speak up for renters, for youth, for seniors, for the unhoused, for our environment, for our small locally owned businesses, for community wellbeing and safety. I will continue to love and care for every aspect of this community, because I am deeply invested in the long-term success of the city.
I take this role very seriously, and weigh each decision council considers with care, whether it's to do with the number of storeys in a proposed apartment building, or comparing the sizes of new garbage cans down to the centimeter. I am someone who gets unreasonably excited about things like flashing pedestrian crossing lights, but who will also support loud advocacy on behalf of the city's needs. I'm constantly considering the diverse perspectives of our community when faced with nuanced choices at the council table.
My vision for Duncan is a city that is affordable, sustainable, walkable, safe, vibrant and beautiful. I am deeply invested in the long term success of our community, and I’m asking for your support so I can continue to work hard on your behalf. It has been an honour and a joy to serve my hometown for the past eight years, and I ask you to consider supporting me to represent and care for Duncan for another four years.
